Louisville, Ky. — The Online Campus of Daymar College is proud to announce that one of its graduates, Loretta Lynne Brantley of White Plains, KY, has been accepted by Thomas M. Cooley Law School, which is based in Lansing, Mich. Brantley plans to begin her studies at the law school’s new Tampa, Fla. campus in September.

Brantley is a 2011 graduate of Daymar’s Online Campus, with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice administration. In 2001, she graduated with an associate degree in paralegal studies from Daymar’s Owensboro, KY Campus.

Tracy Kane, criminal justice/paralegal program leader for Daymar’s Online Campus remarked, “Getting accepted into law school is a major accomplishment. Loretta has worked extremely hard in her course work and has never settled for ‘average.’ I could not be more proud of her and I will also be serving as her review support while she attends. A few of my paralegal faculty members have also volunteered to help her while she is in law school. We know our job doesn’t end at graduation and we’ll continue to support her as she achieves her goal of becoming a lawyer.”

A Kentucky resident for most of her life, Brantley lives in White Plains with her husband. They have four children. Brantley’s goals after completing law school are to become a practicing attorney. She plans to specialize in family law and eventually broaden her experience to include federal bankruptcy law.

Reflecting on the achievements that led to her acceptance into law school, Brantley said she owes special thanks to her sister, Deborah Finton, as well as Tracy Kane. “My sister was the one person who kept telling me I should go back to school and get my bachelor degree,” Brantley said. “Once I entered school, Tracy was my mentor – the person I looked up to. She gave me great encouragement and pushed me to continue forward throughout my classes.”

Brantley added that her other instructors at Daymar’s Online Campus were an important source of support. “As an online student, no matter what time it was, if I had a problem or issue someone would help me either by phone or email. I’m very excited and somewhat scared about attending law school,” she said. “But I’m ready! I thank God for this opportunity and my family for believing in me.”

Kane recalls, “Loretta would drive to Madisonville to meet me so we could go over the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) exam and testing strategies. I also included her on the mock trial preparation and the physical trial so she could get the community service experience she needed for her resume. It’s important to make sure each and every student has the tools and resources they need to achieve their goals and dreams.”

Kane added, “I am excited for Daymar as well. This is a great accomplishment for our programs and proves that we do change lives one person at a time. We have a great online support team for our students, and it takes the entire team to help a student achieve their goals!”

The Daymar College Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program has been notified by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) of qualification for candidacy for accreditation. The achievement marks continued progress toward accreditation for Daymar’s ADN program, which is currently offered at the college’s Owensboro campus.

“This is a major milestone on the road to achieving NLNAC accreditation,” said Dr. Michael Wayne Rager, director of nursing education at Daymar’s Owensboro campus. “It indicates that our ADN program has met or exceeded the NLNAC’s requirements for the next phase of consideration. The high standards we’ve set for our ADN program have been recognized by the NLNAC as evidence that we’re eligible to move forward in the accreditation process. I’m very proud of our program, our faculty and our students.”
Individuals who earn an ADN can qualify to work as professional nurses in hospitals, healthcare providers’ offices, nursing facilities and home healthcare centers. The NLNAC’s accreditation process requires schools to meet a variety of strict requirements and graduate their first class of ADN students before accreditation is granted. High levels of opportunity for student learning and achievement are emphasized.

Dr. Rager added, “This is great news for Daymar’s ADN program, and it’s great news for Owensboro residents who may be considering a nursing career. I’d like to extend my personal invitation to the Owensboro community to stop by and see what we have to offer!”

At a time when donations to charitable organizations are most needed, students at Daymar College’s Owensboro campus have shown the giving spirit that will make the holiday season a little brighter for families in need in the Owensboro area.

That’s because the school’s fifth annual food drive resulted in an outpouring of support, totaling more than 2,200 nonperishable food items – about $1,600 worth. Senior Executive Assistant to the President Melissa Thompson and Administrative Assistant Anita Carter dropped off the items at the food pantry at Journey Fellowship church on Dec. 5. CRC employees also donated $1,000 to help support the pantry’s efforts.

The donations couldn’t have come at a better time, according to Tim Coons, a volunteer at the pantry. “We’re real low,” he said. “We were completely out of canned goods.” Coons said the donation would help restock the barren shelves in the pantry and allow the church to continue giving back to the community and its less fortunate residents.

Past food drive donations have been distributed among students, but representatives from the college decided to branch out and give back to the community, Thompson said.

In addition to its Owensboro campus, Daymar College features 15 campuses throughout Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana. Daymar offers a variety of programs to fit the needs of students, including Accounting, Bookkeeping, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Graphic Design, Human Resource Management, Medical Assisting, Nursing, Paralegal Studies, Pharmacy Technology and Website Design. New Bachelor degree programs include Business Administration, Business Management, Criminal Justice Administration and Health Care Administration.

On Saturday, October 1, some of the biggest dog lovers in Paducah, Ky., hit the ground running – literally – to raise money for the Project Hope Humane Society. Daymar College’s Fast and Furriest 5K, held in Paducah’s Nobel Park, raised $3,300 for the no-kill animal shelter in Metropolis, Ill.

Participants of all ages laced up their running shoes for a 5K run, walk and kid’s fun run event. Furry friends of all shapes and sizes also joined the cause!

Daymar College would like to thank all of the sponsors, vendors and volunteers who helped make the Fast and Furriest 5K a success. Without them, it couldn’t have been possible!

Platinum sponsors:

Flanary Veterinary Clinic

City National Bank

Sherri Morrill, State Farm Agent

Harrah’s Metropolis

Gold sponsor:

RiverGraphics

Silver sponsors:

Donna’s Doggie Den

Companion Animal Hospital

Bronze sponsor:

BioKinetics

As a no-kill shelter, Project Hope promotes spaying and neutering rather than euthanasia, which can be an expensive undertaking. The shelter takes in special needs pets that often would have to be put to sleep at a “typical” shelter. The shelter accepts financial and supply donations.

On Saturday, October 22, Daymar College presented Project Hope with the $3,300 check, which will help the shelter stay in operation. Daymar College is proud to make a difference in the lives of our furry friends!

You may not even think of it, but who you are as a person reflects largely on whether you’re a left-brained or a right-brained thinker. It’s true. How you solve problems, work with others and carry out the overall operation of a project from start to finish is all reflected in either hemisphere of that noggin of yours.

So, if your daily life revolves around which side of the brain you utilize more, then your choice of career is probably a strong reflection of the your cranium’s intricacies, too.

Left brainers – you’ve got a plan in place and know how to get there

Think about it – if you consider yourself a logical, sequential, analytical and objective person who loves solving problems through data analysis, then you’re about as far left brained as possible. You stick to functioning by the book, never straying far from what makes sense. As a result, your choice in career is going to mirror those traits. You probably love working with computers and find using Excel therapeutic, whereas most right-brained people would want to throw their computer out the window when working in Excel. If you’re a left-brain thinker, technical careers in network support administration and information technology are perfect for your mechanical thinking.

As a network support administrator, you can apply your sequential and analytical left-brain thinking much like a computer – installing software, configuring or operating small networks, and helping others solve network support needs. Where there’s a definite problem, there’s a concrete solution and a preprogrammed path to solve it.

Right brainers – what happens, happens, and you’re along for the ride

However, if you’re the opposite and view yourself as a random, on-the-whim person who loves being subjective and imaginative, then you are a right brainer all the way. You operate by what feels right and tend to be a creative individual. When a bowl of macaroni calls for a cup of milk, you don’t measure it out, you eyeball what seems appropriate. As a result, your choice in career has to play to this sense of freedom and creativity. You probably love design and creating things that are totally new and innovative rather than contrived and part of the norm. If you’re a right-brain connoisseur, careers that offer you the chance to utilize your creativity, like graphic design and website design, are going to be of greatest interest to your personality. In fact, you can use that right brain of yours as a cloud in your creative brain storm as you produce appealing designs, stunning motion graphics and user-friendly website creations on a daily basis. After all, you know what they say – when it brains, it storms!

Whether you’re a left brainer or a right brainer, there’s a career out there for you, and Daymar College in Bowling Green has a program that can fit your brain type – left or right. All you’ve got to do is find out which you are and contact us with what program you’re interested in – we’ll take it from there. And remember, left brained or right brained, it doesn’t matter because it takes both to make the world work!

Daymar College makes going back to school a party!

Saying goodbye to summer and heading back to school can be tough, but Daymar College – Owensboro has found a way to make it a little more fun. On Saturday, August 6, Daymar College held their 2nd Annual Back to School Bash complete with food and drinks, prizes, and 280 FREE backpacks filled with school supplies. Now, that’s a reason to get excited about going back to school!

Daymar College invited parents and their school-age children ranging from prekindergarten through grade 12 to attend this popular event. The party started at 10 a.m. and lasted until the last free backpack was handed out.

The 280 free backpacks were filled with school supplies to help the kids start the school year off right. Food, drinks and ice cream were served all day long. Check and Go staff representing the National Exploited & Missing Children provided a child ID station, and the U.S. Army brought plenty of fun children’s games and activities. The older crowd enjoyed free chair massages, haircuts for donations only and great door prizes.

Daymar College – Owensboro would like to thank their sponsors who helped make this event a great success! A big thank you goes out to U.S. Bank, Pepsi, and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
